I’ve Created New Squidoo Lenses

by Justin on November 5, 2011

It’s been quite awhile since I got my first Squidoo lens finished.  I haven’t really kept up with any updates with that site, but it looks like that very first lens is not “featured” there right now.

Check out my new lenses:

I know a lot of people don’t show any real life examples of their niche site work due to concerns about copycats.  The truth is, I don’t really worry yet because I’m still not making any money.  Maybe I’ll change my mind some day, but for now here are the two new sites.

Where to Buy Silver in Canada

How to Buy a Domain Name

Now, I had no clue those were topics I wanted to try out until I did some keyword research with the Google Adwords keyword tool.  I didn’t use any fancy keyword research tools (more on that later.)  Instead, I just started doing some very basic keyword searches such as “how to buy” “where to buy” etc just to get some ideas.  I narrowed the focus down by searching for terms I thought would be relatively easy to rank for.I checked out the Google results for each term with the SEO Quake plugin for Chrome.  Basically what I was looking for was low pagerank sites that were in the top 10.  I also looked for sites that had less than a thousand links and looked at some of the sites to get a feel for the quality.  I also used an LSI tool to get some ideas for the most common keywords and phrases for the top 10 results.  I got a free tool to work on 1 site but since it didn’t work later I’m not going to link to it yet unless I determine the issue was on my end only.

How did I come up with the content?

Well, if you think about it, both article titles are essentially steps.  Where to Buy Silver in Canada is simply a Squidoo lens with a listing of around 10 places in Canada to buy silver.  The cool thing about the Squidoo module I used was that I am able to allow readers to add their own content to keep the page fresh.  For now I’m testing about not requiring my approval for readers to post ideas.  If it becomes a problem then I’ll consider moderating those types of posts.  I did the same for the guestbook.  Otherwise this fun adventure would just seem too much like work.  How to Buy a Domain Name is basically 2 lists of steps.  There was already an existing (incomplete) lens with that title, so I added “easily’ to the end.  For both articles I did research by simply searching Google and getting some ideas from multiple sites.  No copying and pasting at all, just some basic ideas that I put into my own words and expanded upon.  In fact, I took a lot of ideas and set them aside.  After all, the whole point of creating new content like that truly is to make the best page on the topic so that we can rightfully rank at the top.

Hopefully these lens will get indexed soon.  As much as I’d like to make money, I want to see some real traffic for testing purposes more than anything else right now.

As time passes, I will probably decide against posting tons of links to my Squidoo Pages.  But never fear, you can always get my recent ones here

The Keyword Academy Rocks!

by Justin on February 28, 2011

Ok, so about a week ago I decided to stick with the The Keyword Academy and give it a shot.  This throws the theme of this website off a bit, so maybe I can loop back around later and still show people how to start from scratch and work from there.  But, for now, I’m going to go full-throttle into the method they have over there.  Well, I have been starting and stopping, but I’ve made some progress.  It was one post I made in the forum that convinced me they were for real- so many people offered great suggestions, even telling me what not to spend money on- quite refreshing.

So what is all the hoopla about this site?  First of all, it’s a membership site that costs $33 a month that is designed to get complete noobies people like me started with a gameplan to make money online.  What’s cool is how they do the 30 day free trial.  The free trial for The Keyword Academy is done via Paypal, so if I ever wanted to cancel, it’s completely on my terms.  This was absolutely a huge reason for me to sign up because I knew there would be no problems cancelling if I didn’t like it.  But I LOVE it!  Let me tell you why.

The Keyword Academy has a 14+ chapter e-book that outlines their process, along with videos to go with each chapter.  Now, right now they are remaking the ebook and the videos to make them more up-to-date with their current methods.  In some ways I feel like I came in at the best time, in other ways I wish I had come in after all the housekeeping was done.  Probably the best part is the very active forum that helps tie everything together.  Everyone who wants can apply for little badges next to their name that shows how much monthly income they are making.  So far it’s very apparent to me the guys who founded this, Court Tuttle and Mark Butler, are extremely honest so I believe it when they say the monthly incomes must be proven.

Let me tell you, it’s extremely inspirational to read through old posts from people when they were new like me and see updated badges next to their names.  Some are making $500, $1,000, $2,500, even $5-10k a month!  What’s truly amazing is how much these full-timers are willing to help new people like me.  I was about to just pay for a 12 month subscription, but for now for cashflow needs I’m just going to go month-to-month.

Have any of you tried The Keyword Academy yet?  If so, let’s hear your feedback!  If not, what are you waiting for?

I got myself sidetracked with The Challenge as it was taking me down a path I didn’t really want to go at the time- creating niche websites.  Now, I do plan on doing this soon, but I’m not intending to start out this project spending money on additional domains etc.  I also plan on finishing [...]
